Entering his first Championship Off Road Racing season, Dan Beauchamp's goal was consistency.
Beauchamp achieved his goal, and then some, on the way to earning 2006 CORR Sportsman Rookie of the Year honors.
The Escanaba driver was honored at the Night of Champions Banquet Nov. 11 in Carter, Wis.
At age 22, Beauchamp was the youngest driver on the Sportsman Stock circuit. He said his aim was to finish every race.
I never broke in any of my races. Every race somebody breaks. So that's a big thing, Beauchamp said. We went out this year and tried to finish races and that's what we did.
Beauchamp finished in the top 10 of every race with a high finish of 5th place July 9 in front of the hometown fans at Bark River. I was consistent all year, he said.
Beauchamp said he wasn't sure what to expect at the beginning of the season. The first race I was really nervous, he said. But once I got there it just came to me.
Everyone else out there is more experienced and older. They're all really good, he said.
Dan Beauchamp said he wanted to make sure he held his own with the more experienced drivers. I tried to get respect from all the drivers in my class and above my class, he said.
Dan said. He's helped a lot. Dan said his parents, Terry and Karen, gave him a lot of support this season. Beauchamp had other family members who purchased equipment for him this year also.
Beauchamp said his pit crew and sponsors were also a big factor in his success. Sponsors are the most important part of my racing. Their support means everything, he said. I could not have accomplished Rookie of the Year without them.
Eventually, Beauchamp said he would like to move up to a pro class, but for now the goal is to move up the Sportsman Stock standings next season. We're gonna go for the top three anyway, he said. It's going to be a big year.
